21st Century Media & Design Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

21st Century students explore how visual imagery works in digital platforms such as game making, programming, character creation, creative writing, graphic design, and various forms of animation. Students incorporate elements and principles of art to produce rich content which will then be marketed and promoted on the internet.

This program includes the following credential(s): ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Cybersecurity Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

Interested in protecting computers, digital information, or financial assets? Looking for a widely expanding field that pays incredibly well and is always growing? The RBCTC Cybersecurity program may be for you. Programming, asset protection, and hacking will all be explored. Available in-person at Thetford Academy or fully remote.

This program includes the following credential(s): ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Medical Administrative Assistant Training | Certification

This program is intended for adult students. High school students may be able to apply, as well.

This program teaches the knowledge and skills to work in a medical office setting, including doctors’ offices, hospitals, insurance companies, and public health clinics. Students are prepared for a career as an entry-level medical administrative assistant, to provide basic knowledge in office procedures, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, and to help students develop written and oral communication skills they can apply to electronic medical records.

This program includes the following credential(s): National Healthcare Association CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant); National Healthcare Association’s CEHRS (Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist).

Legal Secretary Training | Certification

This program is intended for adult students. High school students may be able to apply, as well.

This program will prepare you for a career as a vital part of a law office or courthouse. Through flexible classes, you’ll learn the skills and knowledge to become a successful legal secretary. Classes cover topics necessary to the field such as communication skills, records management, legal terminology, and legal writing. The legal secretary program meets National Association of Legal Secretaries (NALS) standards and fulfills the education requirement necessary to be eligible to sit for the Accredited Legal Professional (ALP) certification exam.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B Training | License

This program is intended for adult students. High school students may be able to apply, as well.

The Commercial Driver’s License Class B program is your first step toward a career driving commercial vehicles. This primarily includes straight trucks, though, at the end of the course, students can pursue endorsements that would allow operation of snowplows, fuel trucks, school and tour buses.

Students will learn pre-trip inspection, diagnosing and reporting malfunctions, handling cargo, safe operating procedures, vehicle systems, and more. The course consists of a minimum of 74 hours of instruction including classroom, lab and on-road driving.

This program includes the following credential(s): Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B.

Dental Assistant Training | Certificate

This program is intended for adult students. High school students may be able to apply, as well.

A dental assistant’s duties typically involve managing medical records, accounts receivable, and reimbursement, as well as billing patients and insurance, scheduling patients, and performing procedural and diagnostic coding. Each student will do online, self-paced course work and be connected to a regional dentist for clinical experience during the course work. You’ll also learn important foundational skills such as dental terminology and anatomy, as well as written and oral communication skills.

This program includes the following credential(s): Approval Certificate from the Vermont State Dental Society.

Cosmetology Program | License

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

Careers in the growing specialties of the beauty industry lead to a transformation of customers’ confidence and happiness in a busy world. The study of hair, skin, and nails in River Bend’s Cosmetology program allows students to earn up to 700 hours towards the 1000-hours required for state licensure.

Instruction covers everything from the chemistry of changing hair color, to essential skin care, make-up for daily and theatrical applications, and nail techniques. Students design and create their own salons, practicing entrepreneurial skills while studying the economics of business.

This program prepares for the following credential(s): Vermont Cosmetology License.

Construction Technology and Residential Energy Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

The Construction Technology/Residential Energy (CTRE) curriculum provides technical training in all aspects of residential construction, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and alternative energy.

Building design, blueprint reading, estimating, safety on the work site, building codes, site work, foundations, stairs, timber framing, insulation envelopes, stress skin panels, roof systems, framing, and finish work are all part of the process. There is a focus on alternative, renewable energy sources (solar, wind, biomass) and the latest energy efficiency technologies and designs.

Students will also be introduced to the operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Students will use acquired knowledge to design and build projects of various sizes and complexity.
