Heavy Equipment Operation & Maintenance Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

Students are exposed to the basic maintenance and operation of construction equipment: bulldozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, graders, and trailers. The main emphasis in the program is on safety and work ethics. Students will also learn the basics of the 1-800-DIG-SAFE system, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, trench safety, basic first aid, personal protective gear and clothing, hand signals for equipment control, motor carrier safety regulations, the use of fire extinguishers, basic mechanics, basic welding, the proper use of hand tools, fluids, types of soils, erosion control, contamination considerations, stump and snow removal, reading blueprints, the use of transits, leveling/grading, preventative maintenance, road design, and job skills.

Human Services Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

This program is designed to prepare students for early childhood education, health care, social services, and related fields. This program focuses on learning about all stages of human development. Other areas explored include nutrition, health, unique populations, and job skills, as well as preparing for a career in human services.

Students will be required to complete homework assignments, in-depth research projects, and actively participate in class activities –including public speaking. Through research and study, students will develop the ability to work with children and families. Students will also learn to organize lesson plans, activities and appropriate environments to promote positive physical, emotional, intellectual and social growth in children. The second-year curriculum includes an option for dual enrollment credit through the Health Sciences 2 Human Growth and Development class (with the recommendation of the teacher). Students will have an opportunity to learn about and explore the career options in the field of human services, such as teacher, school counselor, mental health worker or case manager, and individual or family therapist.

Science, Technology, Engineering & Mechatronics (S.T.E.M.) Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

The Mechatronics Engineering Technology program teaches mechanics, electronics, control theory, and computer science. Upon completion, students will be able to maintain, troubleshoot, and diagnose advanced automated systems. Year one students will learn the fundamentals of hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, mechanics, robotics, and electronic components and their applications including resistors, diodes and capacitors. Year two focuses on preparation for the Level I Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification and the Systems Approach to Mechatronics. Year two will also incorporate industrial design using automated equipment and 3-D software such as Solidworks in the development of projects. Work in this portion will include design build projects using 3-D printers and CNC machines. Students will be well prepared to enter a number of STEM related postsecondary programs including mechanical and electrical engineering or begin a job as an entry-level technician.

Natural Resources Program | Certification

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

This program will introduce students natural resource management careers. The focus is broad, however specific proficiencies in several skills will be included: tractor operation, equipment maintenance, gathering and analyzing inventory data, management planning, map use, maple syrup production, sawmilling, timber harvesting and chainsaw use, wildlife management, and arboricultural techniques. Students will learn and practice the ecological principles that help them understand the methods and importance of being a good steward.

The goals of this program are: Foster an understanding of the complexity inherent in natural systems; appreciate the interrelatedness between and within the geological, hydrological, and biological components of local forest, aquatic, and agricultural ecosystems; build an awareness of the connection between good management practices and the resulting social, environmental, and economic benefits; introduce students to a variety of careers in natural resources; provide students with the vocabulary, conceptual understanding, technical knowledge, and physical skills necessary to pursue natural resource careers; engage students in hands-on project-based learning activities to develop safe and effective working practices; enhance students’ transferable employment practices and values; engage students with their local community by providing opportunities for field trips and community service projects.

Transportation Science Technology Program | Certification

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

The Transportation Science Technology (TST) program is NATEF certified in the area of Maintenance and Light Repair. Students work in the classroom and lab area involved in practical job service, with over half of the total program time spent working on vehicles. Instruction will focus on personal and environmental safety practices, service maintenance, brakes, engine fundamentals, steering and suspension diagnosis and repair, front end geometry and wheel alignment. Students will also work on developing competencies with electronic and other test equipment in the areas of automotive electricity and engine performance. Time management, professional conduct, organizational skills, and the completion of work in accordance with industry standards are emphasized.

Animal Systems Science Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

Students will examine animal science basics including: genetics, anatomy and physiology, growth, reproduction, artificial insemination, lactation, nutrition, animal disease, and animal research. Instruction is designed to allow for hands-on learning through field and laboratory experiences. For at least 40% of the time, students will do field and laboratory work using safe, environmentally appropriate, and ethical practices. This work involves obtaining and analyzing data with physical equipment and may also involve experimentation in a simulated environment as well as field experiments using large animals. Students must be able to work with large animals.

Building Trades Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

Students learn safety techniques, safe use of tools, identification and use of building materials, print reading, construction-related math, and construction procedures. These include the framing of floors and walls, planning and construction of stairs, calculation and construction of roofs, installation of doors and windows, installation of insulation, interior wall coverings, siding, exterior trim, and how to plan and build decks. Interior finish work includes applying trim to doors and windows, applying moldings, hanging interior doors, cabinetry, and installing hardware.

Students, after class preparation, will work on actual construction projects in the community and apply learned procedures. Students are also exposed to team-building and will practice problem-solving and employability skills.

Business Leadership & Marketing Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

This is a two-year program open to all 11th and 12th grade students who are in good academic standing. 10th grade students may apply with permission.

Students will learn concepts related to customer service, marketing campaigns, public relations, merchandising, accounting, inventory, and communication. In year one, students create a school store business plan based on the leadership, teamwork, business and marketing concepts learned such as accounting, customer service, business ethics, marketing, and advertising. This business plan is brought to life through real-world application in the school store school-based enterprise. Each student holds a key role in the school store from selecting and ordering inventory, to running the cash register, to running financial reports using the QuickBooks accounting software. In year two, students focus on business operations and take a deeper dive into what it takes to run a successful business. Students go on trips to a variety of businesses throughout the community to learn from local entrepreneurs.

Computer Programming & Game Design Program | Certificate

This is intended for high school students attending from within the district. College credits may be available as part of this program. Students from outside the district or adults who are not enrolled in high school can contact the center to apply for this program, as well.

This program forms the groundwork for the increasing number of Internet and Computer Game and Entertainment Related Careers ranging from Computer Programmer (covering applications, web and game programming), Game Designer, Web Designer, Graphic Designer (for web-based graphics, print-media and game graphics) and Database Designer. Web programming (using JavaScript and PHP) and E-Commerce are covered. Programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, PHP and SQL will be covered as well as multimedia tools: Photoshop, Blender, Inkscape and Game Programming tools (Gamemaker). Additional topics such as interactive websites with JavaScript and 3D Game Programming will also be covered.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A Training | License

This program is intended for adult students. High school students may be able to apply, as well.

Earn your CDL and start a rewarding new career! This class offers 150 hours of training for students seeking a class A CDL. Students must be at least 18 with a valid VT driver’s license, with the ability to pass a five-panel drug test and obtain a medical certificate. The United States Department of Transportation requires that all drivers who transport materials across state lines be at least 21.
