Medical Laboratory Science is the health profession that analyzes blood, tissues, and other bodily specimens for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of diseases.
Microbiology | Bachelor’s Degree
Microbiology is the study of all living organisms so small that they are invisible to the naked eye. These microorganisms, which include viruses, bacteria and fungi, play an important role in understanding all aspects of life. If you are fascinated by microscopic organisms, the spread of infectious diseases, or are interested in attending medical school or graduate school in the biomedical sciences, a B.S. in Microbiology is a great choice.

Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies | Bachelor’s Degree
The Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies Program (GSWS) offers a unique and wide-ranging way of studying and engaging with the world. We study concepts such as sex, gender, and sexuality; identities such as female, male, gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, and queer; the intersections of these identities with race, class, (dis)ability and other kinds of differences among people; and academic subjects including women’s history, the sociology of the family, race and gender in urban space, queer theory, sex and politics, and biological approaches to sex and gender.
GSWS is both an academic discipline and a meeting place for students and faculty in every discipline who want to explore these critically important issues. The program is scholarly, and it is fully engaged with the world in which we live.
Mathematics (BA) | Bachelor’s Degree
The Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics is a flexible program through the College of Arts & Sciences providing mathematics in the context of a liberal arts degree, allowing a wide range of double majors and minors, as well as the option of a Concentration in Statistics.
A Bachelor of Arts with a major in mathematics is offered and supervised by the College of Arts and Sciences. Students opting for this degree require an advisor from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
Geography | Bachelor’s Degree
The study of geography at the university level equips students with many of the same analytical and conceptual skills as other liberal arts disciplines, but our emphasis on understanding the spatial dimensions of both physical and human phenomena is unique. Further, the study of Geography trains students to appreciate the importance of a broad, international, interdisciplinary and comparative perspective.
A Geography major provides students with technical skills, a focus on environment and society, and local-regional-global interpretive capacity that is increasingly important for an informed citizenry. A Geography minor provides students with a foundation in human and/or physical geography, geographic techniques, regional studies and important subdisciplinary fields such as urban/rural studies, climate studies, and political ecology.
German | Bachelor’s Degree
The German program at UVM provides comprehensive instruction in German language, culture and literature. The curriculum reflects a commitment to both the traditions of literary studies in German and to new developments in the field. Small classes emphasize student participation and use of the target language.
Areas of particular strength include the Age of Goethe and Romanticism; the 19th and 20th centuries; Austrian literature; exile literature; German folklore and proverbs; and Holocaust film and literature.
Global Studies | Bachelor’s Degree
Global studies is an interdisciplinary topic exploring global issues from political science, economic, sociological, and anthropological lenses. A major in global studies provides you with a passport to entering a highly rewarding career in fields including international relations, international business, foreign diplomacy, non-profit organizations, and more. Our major program offers a selection of stimulating coursework that prioritizes class discussion, features dedicated and experienced faculty, and prepares students for an inspiring career.
Health and Society | Bachelor’s Degree
This program brings together highly engaging faculty and broad-thinking students to examine the many ways in which human health, healing, and health care are defined, perceived, and enacted and distributed within and across populations.
Students take a selection of College of Arts and Science (CAS) courses in anthropology, critical race and ethnic studies, economics, environmental studies, gender, sexuality, and women’s studies, geography, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, and more. As a cross-college major, Health and Society offers students the opportunity to take some non-CAS in areas such as communication sciences and disorders, community development and applied economics, health education, health sciences, nutrition and food science, statistics, and more.
