Baking Arts | Certification

The folding of a croissant, the lattice work of a pie — your hands will transform sugar, butter and flour into awe-inspiring creations in Baking Arts. Work in a real, off-campus bake shop and see, smell, and feel what it’s like to be in a professional setting. In lecture and lab, learn baking principles, methods and preparations, plus customer service skills, culinary math, and workplace skills. In-class tastings? Icing on the cake!

This program includes the following credentials: National Restaurant Association-ServSafe Manager, ACT National Career Readiness Certificate, National Restaurant Association-ServSafe Allergens.

Building Trades | Certificate

Do you wonder how structures are made? In Building Trades, you’ll learn residential and commercial skills from the ground up while earning the NCCER credentials. Along the way, you’ll learn the principles and skills of general carpentry.

This program includes the following credentials: National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Certificates-Carpentry Level 1 & Level 2, National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Certificate-Construction Core Introductory Craft Skills, ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Cosmetology | License

Cosmetology allows you to apply your artistic skills in an industry dedicated to helping people look and feel their best. This two-year program provides the knowledge and training necessary to succeed and prepares you for the Vermont State Board of Cosmetology licensing exam. Additionally, you’ll explore a variety of career paths within the industry. In your second year, you’ll gain hands-on experience running your student salon at CVCC, offering hair cutting and coloring, chemical texturizing, waxing, skincare, nail care, and makeup application services.

This program includes the following credentials: ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Successful participation in this credential is a pathway to eligibility for the Vermont Licensing Exam to obtain a Cosmetology License.

Digital Media Arts: Graphic Design | Certification

Graphic Design is the cornerstone of a successful career in Digital Media Arts (DMA). This program equips you with the skills to master industry-standard tools like Adobe Creative Suite, while fostering creativity and precision in design. A foundational unit in Photography builds technical expertise in camera operation, visual composition, and digital editing, preparing you to create impactful advertisement campaigns. Throughout the year, you’ll explore innovative communication methods, collaborate with community partners, and tackle real-world creative challenges, gaining the tools and confidence to excel in graphic design and beyond.

This program includes the following credentials: Adobe Certified Associate-Photoshop, Adobe Certified Associate-Illustrator.

Culinary Arts | Certificate

From sourcing ingredients to artistically presenting them on a plate, Culinary Arts will teach you classical recipes, methods and techniques, as well as new trends in food preparation. In lecture and lab, learn foundational principles, methods/preparations, plus customer service skills, culinary math, and workplace skills. As you get an overview of different parts of the hospitality industry, you’ll learn about their distinguishing characteristics and trends.

This program includes the following credentials: ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.

Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) | License

The Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) program will prepare students for an entry level position in the field of nursing. This class will also prepare students to successfully pass the State Board exam.

Classes are typically 5 hours long and the total course length is 90 hours: 45 hours of classroom and lab instruction at CVCC; 30 hours of clinical training at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield; and 15 hours of review at CVCC.

This program prepares for the following credential(s): Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA).

Community Kitchen Academy | Certificate

Community Kitchen Academy (CKA) is a seven-week culinary training program. At CKA, you’ll learn from professional chefs in modern commercial kitchens and graduate with the skills and knowledge to work in the field of food service.

Throughout the course, you’ll develop and apply new skills by preparing food that would otherwise be wasted from grocery stores, restaurants, farms, and food service companies. The food you cook is then distributed through food shelves and meal sites throughout the community.

CKA features: hands-on learning, national ServSafe Food Manager certificate, Vermont Division of Liquor Control First Class Server Training, job placement support, tuition and financial assistance for income eligible students, and connections to community and resources.

CKA is available at two locations: Barre and Burlington.
