This program is designed for individuals with a strong background in chemistry. UVM undergraduates who will be graduating and wish to enter this graduate program are not admitted to the Ph.D. program.

Description

A Ph.D. degree in chemistry prepares students for careers in chemical sciences and related disciplines including biomedical sciences, biotechnology, catalysis, energy, environment, materials science, or nanotechnology. Individuals having earned a Ph.D. in chemistry at UVM have gone on to careers in academics, the chemical industry, and national research laboratories. Graduate study at UVM is research intensive, and a description of research by chemical subdivision follows.

Financial Assistance

  • Funding, Grants, & Scholarships

    Graduate students typically receive 12-months of financial support either in the form of a teaching assistantship (T.A.) from the Chemistry Department or a research assistantship (R.A.) from their research advisor's grant. Graduate students will automatically be considered for T.A. support by the department through their fifth year. All support, of course, is dependent upon the student's satisfactory performance both as a T.A. and in their research.
